Generosity is Always in Style with @daretowearlove

Over the past months, I’ve been involved with the Dare to Wear Love fundraiser, which celebrates the work of Canada’s fashion community while raising money for the Stephen Lewis Foundation. The DARE TO WEAR LOVE GALA caps off Toronto Fashion Week with a fashion runway event like no other, and it’s happening at the Ritz-Carlton this Friday – March 22nd!

Event founders Chris Tyrell and Jim Searle of Toronto-based Hoax Couture have invited 25 top Canadian fashion designers to participate. Get to know more about the designers and whom they will dress! The line-up of models includes: legendary guitarist Liona Boyd, CBC News anchor Dwight Drummond, eTalk anchor Tanya Kim, and many others!

Chris and Jim believe in social justice and created DARE TO WEAR LOVE to help others less fortunate.

As much as I’m looking forward to the fashion show, I’m also super excited about the SILENT AUCTION. All the money from ticket sales and proceeds of the auction will be used for grassroots organizations in Africa to fight the AIDS pandemic through the Stephen Lewis Foundation. There will be amazing items up for grabs including a luxury trip for two to Australia!

Come prepared to bid!

Listen to my Podcast Interview with @SimonsGroove

Last week, I was interviewed by Simon Jones for his podcast, aptly called: Simon’s Groove.

This show is what happens when two former radio talk show hosts retake the mic for a raucous weekly show filled with chat about current events, pop culture and more. Simon’s Groove features interviews, music, movie reviews and corny jokes, too.

Simon and I had a great time chatting about writing, erotica, new projects, and he was every bit as groovy as I knew he would be. He and Unckel Mike really ham it up before I join them. They are hilarious!

Have a listen, and be sure to subscribe to the podcast on iTunes so you never miss an episode!

Scaling Back the Juggling Act

Back in September, I wrote a post called Planning by the Seat of my Pants.

It listed my writing goals for the final months of 2012. Well … those months have passed, and it’s time to reflect and share some news about goal-setting and the direction of this blog.

I’m happy to say I’ve accomplished most of what I set out to do in 2012. I now have eight books in the marketplace—three collections, and five short stories. You can find them here.

US | UK | Canada | Germany | France | Japan | Italy | Spain

I’ve blogged continuously since Nov. 2010 and have taken every opportunity to highlight others via an author/artist interview, author promotion, or sharing their work via all available social networks. This, in turn, has connected me to wonderful authors, filmmakers, and creative people from all walks of life. They are not simply virtual acquaintances; many have become good friends.

I’ve juggled writing, promoting my work, and promoting others’ work non-stop for over two years. Why? Because I’m a huge believer in supporting work I like—plain and simple. For a full-time writer like me, writing is a business, and like all businesses, we need a strong support network to grow, thrive, and continue.

Have I done it correctly? I don’t know. What are the benchmarks?

The number of Twitter followers? The number of friends on Facebook? The number of reviews on our books?

Though I agree these criteria are important, they are only part of the juggling act. Ultimately, as a business, my efforts must translate into sales of my books. That means, I need to continue writing and juggling. I can’t afford to discard even one ball … but perhaps I don’t need to juggle so quickly … and I don’t have to accept the bowling pins people throw in my direction.

juggler

I have three major goals for 2013.

  • Put out a full-length novel
  • Release the four novellas of Spring into Summer separately
  • Revamp my website and blog

I’m also helping friends with a major fundraiser in the city, and for the third year running, I’ll be on the jury for the Feminist Porn Awards (hard work, but someone’s got to do it).

All this to say, my professional goal for 2013 is not to stop what I’ve been doing, but to scale back certain activities to fit everything in—the main one being this blog. I’ll be reducing the number of blogs per month in order to keep up with the high quality of posts you’ve come to expect.

Check out January’s schedule.

I leave for a holiday shortly, where I’ll catch up on my reading. As always, your comments—good, bad, or otherwise are welcome, and please accept my sincere gratitude for your continued support.

HOT FLASH – A Smoking New Book Release

You may recall in September I planned to release an ebook of flash fiction and poetry by yearend.

I’m happy to announce my new book, Hot Flash is available today. Wheee!

It’s a collection of twenty erotic stories and poems, with two NON-erotic stories as well.

I wrote and read many of them for The Word Count Podcast by author, R.B. Wood. I’ve re-edited them with several other pieces and added three never-before-published works.

Erotic story: “A Lustful Encounter”

Erotic poem: “A Loose Leaf”

Non-erotic story: “My Grandfather’s Gift”

As the book is dedicated to my grandfather, I’m very proud to close the collection with a story about him. Originally written as part of a holiday anthology which never materialized, I’ve revised it and include it here. I’m thrilled the story has a home, and I know my grandfather would’ve approved.

My sincere thanks to JB Graphics for a SMOKING HOT cover. I hope you’ll pick up a copy of Hot Flash and enjoy it.

As always, grateful for your support,

eden

Planning by the Seat of My Pants

Those who know me well, know I’m not much of a planner, but somehow I get things done … by the seat of my pants, so to speak.

Since the e-book release of Spring into Summer July 9th, I’ve been busy with marketing the book, writing over thirty unique guest blogs and participating in almost as many interviews.

Read the Thank You posts to see the wonderful people who’ve offered their support … so far.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5Part 6

As I continue writing and promoting, I wanted to take a breather and share some other news with you.

Spring into Summer Available in Print

The paperback is now available. The design of the cover and the interior is by the award-winning JB Graphics—who also did my first book. He does amazing work, and I LOVE it.

Check out his website, and connect to him on Twitter @JBGraphix.

I’d also like to extend my sincerest thanks to acclaimed poet Steven Marty Grant, author of Another Hotel Room who did me the honor of reviewing my book. His wonderful words can be found on the back cover, and you can read them here too.

Look for Steven’s new book, Chasing Moriarty coming soon, and connect to him on Twitter @StevenMGrant.

The e-book continues to be sold exclusively at:

Fall into Winter re-published

I’ve republished the e-book of my first anthology, Fall into Winter. The main reason for doing this was to regain full control of the book, originally done by a third party.

The downside is I will lose all the reviews and “Likes” I’ve acquired to date on Amazon. As a temporary remedy, I’ve added the reviews to my blog here. Over time, I hope to get them reinstated to the new version of my book.

Feel free to like and tag me again on my Amazon page. It’s much appreciated. ;)

*** UPDATE Sept 25th ***  I found out from friend and author, David T. Lender that my reviews can be transferred from the old version to the new. WHEEE! That’s in the process of happening now. Thanks David!

The SECOND e-book edition of Fall into Winter can be purchased at:

Amazon US | Amazon UK  | Smashwords

I’m in the process of republishing the print version as well, however you can still buy it through specific sites listed here until further notice.

E-book of Flash Fiction and Poetry

This, yet to be titled collection, will be a compilation of stories and poems I’ve written for my blog, along with some new ones. I thought it’d be a good idea to offer them in an anthology to increase readership.

This e-book will be available by yearend.

New Website and Blog

I’ve been working with JB Graphics to create a new website. I haven’t made many changes to my site since its inception, and it’s time for a makeover.

Look for a reveal sometime later this year.

Upcoming Novel

I’m researching my new book right now, and it’s moving along—slowly but surely. It’s a mix of John Fowles/Charles Bukowski/Haruki Murakami and a dash of Pauline Réage thrown in for good measure. The full-length novel is a new animal for me since I’m used to writing short stories, so I’m feeling challenged—it’s a good thing.

As for a release date? 2013 is the goal, but don’t push me for anything more specific than that.

I’m  planning by the seat of my pants, remember? ;)

That’s all the news I have for now. I’ll update as I learn more.

Your comments—good, bad, or otherwise are always welcome, and thanks so much for the continued support.

Chatting with Casey Ryan of @CuttingRoomMRB ~ Part 2

I had the great pleasure of meeting Casey over a year ago and was interviewed by him July 2011. Time flies!

Sunday, August 26th, I’ll be on his show THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR, once again, at 12 PM EST.

Casey is someone I’ve grown very fond of. He has wonderful guests on his show—filmmakers, artists, authors and is a terrific and generous promoter of indies.

In recent months, he also started his blog. His writing is stellar, which only makes me more proud to have him review my latest book, Spring into Summer.

Read Casey’s review

It was great to meet Casey when he attended my book signing, and I’d encourage anyone who wants exposure for their projects—big or small to connect to him.

You’d be hard pressed to find a stronger advocate for the indie community.

Connect to Casey via his blog, on  Twitter @cuttingroommrb, and on his podcast

I look forward to speaking with Casey again, and I hope you’ll  join us,

eden
