FALL INTO WINTER is now sold as 4 separate ebooks

A short time ago, I met with NYU professor and Forbes writer, David Vinjamuri. I wrote about it in my post here.  We talked marketing strategy, and I’m finally putting his advice into practise.

My book, Fall into Winter has been on the market since February 2011. It contains four distinct novellas and is the size of a novel at 60K words. It has sold well, but not as well as I’d like. I packaged the book this way because I wanted a print version; it only made sense to do it if there was enough material.

Fall into Winter

So what’s changing?

Nothing as far as Fall into Winter is concerned, but I’m adding 4 new books to the marketplace. I’ve stripped out each novella to be sold separately as ebooks.

Each will be offered at $2.99, or you can still buy Fall into Winter at $4.99.

The math is simple. It’s easier for readers to part with $2.99 than $4.99, but the better value is of course to buy the whole book. ;)

Below are the four new covers designed by JBGraphics. You can follow him on Twitter @jbgraphix.

Buy links:  Amazon US | Amazon UK

If you love how the covers tell a story, I know you’ll enjoy my writing. I’ve included a summary of each book as well.

Your opinion of the strategy, covers, pricing, etc. is welcome. Feedback is always appreciated,

Grateful,

eden

My First Book Club Meet was Oh SO SWEET

I’m still in NYC right now, but this post is about something that happened just before I got here. I was invited to be the guest of honor at a book club—my first! And you know you never forget your first.

The meeting was to discuss Fall into Winter – my debut anthology of erotic novellas.

Sweet right? Damn right it was.

S.W.E.E.T also happens to be the name of this unique book club, which stands for: Sophisticated Women Exploring Erotic Texts.

I love sophisticated women. I love exploring, and I definitely love erotic texts. I knew this would be my type of club.

I arrived at 7:30 in the evening, and the majority of women were already gathered at the meeting place—a beautiful home in North Toronto.  The club was made up of professional women in their twenties and thirties. It was their third meeting, after having read  Fifty Shades of Gray and Bared to You.

There was food and wine and dessert, and … there was an agenda.  Holy god, these women were serious. They came prepared with overall impressions, suggestions, likes and dislikes. Their questions were specific.

Animated, lively, at times vulgar and hilarious, we discussed favorite stories, specific scenes, and male characters. We even talked about synonyms because they liked my word choices. This was a great compliment as I’m a logophile and words are important to me. I’ve written about their impact in a previous post called “It’s Only Words … or is it?”

For erotic writing, however, I rely on several aids, and one I particularly like is The Bald-Headed Hermit and the Artichoke. It’s an erotic thesaurus with a sense of humor. There are more synonyms to describe the penis than any other word in the English language, but a  ”steamin’ semen truck” or “purple headed yogurt slinger”? Not exactly erotic, is it? I promise you’ll never find those terms in my books!

A large part of the discussion centered around my story “Act Three” and its controversial scene. From there, we talked about rape fantasies, fear, and how writers push the envelope of what is erotic.

One of the biggest compliments I received was their thoughts on my female leads. They considered the women smart and intelligent unlike the leads in the previous two books they had read. For me, this was extremely flattering considering my demographic is more of the 30-40 age group. It was so encouraging to meet women who identified with themselves in my stories.

FACT: I don’t write for stupid women so you won’t find them in my books.

The evening ended close to midnight, and I had to get up in seven hours to catch a plane. It was wonderful to hang out with open-minded women who talk about sex, sexuality, and their love of good writing. No, I don’t consider these women open-minded just because they read erotica. They are open-minded. Period. Because of that, they’ve taken to exploring this in their books.

I want to thank the beautiful women of SWEET for their praise, charm, and humor.

A special thanks to O, the gracious host, for making my first book club meet such a sweet experience.

eden

Three Reviews for Spring into Summer

Spring into Summer was reviewed by three excellent sites this past week.

 * * * *

Wendy Hines from Minding Spot said:

” … If you’ve been wanting to try erotica, but have been holding back for whatever reason, Eden Baylee is the place to start! “

Read the full review here and comment to win a copy of either of my books. Contest ends Oct. 18th.

Diantha Jones, a reviewer for the Masqerade Crew said:

” … Spring into Summer was a great read and I recommend it to romance lovers who aren’t afraid to let Baylee access their more raw side.”

Read the full review here.

From Niina C of For the Love of Reading Reviews, I received a two-star review. That doesn’t sound too good, but I believe an author should always want honesty when he/she asks for a review. Despite the low number of stars, Niina’s words impressed me. She said:

“I really wanted to like Spring into Summer, the blurb was beautiful and the stories seemed interesting at first glance. So why didn’t I like it? …”

Planning by the Seat of My Pants

Those who know me well, know I’m not much of a planner, but somehow I get things done … by the seat of my pants, so to speak.

Since the e-book release of Spring into Summer July 9th, I’ve been busy with marketing the book, writing over thirty unique guest blogs and participating in almost as many interviews.

Read the Thank You posts to see the wonderful people who’ve offered their support … so far.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5Part 6

As I continue writing and promoting, I wanted to take a breather and share some other news with you.

Spring into Summer Available in Print

The paperback is now available. The design of the cover and the interior is by the award-winning JB Graphics—who also did my first book. He does amazing work, and I LOVE it.

Check out his website, and connect to him on Twitter @JBGraphix.

I’d also like to extend my sincerest thanks to acclaimed poet Steven Marty Grant, author of Another Hotel Room who did me the honor of reviewing my book. His wonderful words can be found on the back cover, and you can read them here too.

Look for Steven’s new book, Chasing Moriarty coming soon, and connect to him on Twitter @StevenMGrant.

Fall into Winter re-published

I’ve republished the e-book of my first anthology, Fall into Winter. The main reason for doing this was to regain full control of the book, originally done by a third party.

The downside is I will lose all the reviews and “Likes” I’ve acquired to date on Amazon. As a temporary remedy, I’ve added the reviews to my blog here. Over time, I hope to get them reinstated to the new version of my book.

Feel free to like and tag me again on my Amazon page. It’s much appreciated. ;)

*** UPDATE Sept 25th ***  I found out from friend and author, David T. Lender that my reviews can be transferred from the old version to the new. WHEEE! That’s in the process of happening now. Thanks David!

*   *   *   *

The SECOND e-book edition of Fall into Winter can be purchased at:

Amazon US | Amazon UK  | Smashwords

I’m in the process of republishing the print version as well, however you can still buy it through specific sites listed here until further notice.

E-book of Flash Fiction and Poetry

This, yet to be titled collection, will be a compilation of stories and poems I’ve written for my blog, along with some new ones. I thought it’d be a good idea to offer them in an anthology to increase readership.

This e-book will be available by yearend.

New Website and Blog

I’ve been working with JB Graphics to create a new website. I haven’t made many changes to my site since its inception, and it’s time for a makeover.

Look for a reveal sometime later this year.

Upcoming Novel

I’m researching my new book right now, and it’s moving along—slowly but surely. It’s a mix of John Fowles/Charles Bukowski/Haruki Murakami and a dash of Pauline Réage thrown in for good measure. The full-length novel is a new animal for me since I’m used to writing short stories, so I’m feeling challenged—it’s a good thing.

As for a release date? 2013 is the goal, but don’t push me for anything more specific than that.

I’m  planning by the seat of my pants, remember? ;)

That’s all the news I have for now. I’ll update as I learn more.

Your comments—good, bad, or otherwise are always welcome, and thanks so much for the continued support.

I’m Featured as part of May Movers and Shakers

I’m a huge fan of author, Suzannah Burke whom I interviewed last year. I also wrote for her site, Soooz Says Stuff as part of “The Relevance of Sex in Literature in 2011” series.

I haven’t done any promotion for my book, Fall into Winter in a while, so it was both gracious and serendipitous of Soooz to offer me a spot on her site for May Movers and Shakers.  Thanks for your kindness, Soooz.

Suzannah Burke has written TWO best-selling non-fiction books under her pen name, Stacey Danson.

They are gut-wrenching and powerful books about her experience as an abused child. Find out why both  Empty Chairs and its sequel, Faint Echoes of Laughter remain top sellers.

Read more about them HERE and buy them on AMAZON.

Am I Too Anal … for Book Two?

I was going to name this post “Am I Pedantic?” but instead, I went for the double entendre. Writing erotica should be fun, and I consider double entendres a whimsical part of it.

So … the question is “Am I too anal to write another book?” The answer is yes, but considering I’m anal about most things I care about, I don’t see this as a negative trait.

I’ve been working for some time on my second anthology, Spring into Summer, thought I had it done months ago, then completely rewrote the stories. It’s been back and forth with my new editor who is fantastic, patient, and has improved my writing tenfold. The road to this book has been longer than the first. Some call it the Sophomore Syndrome. I prefer to think of it as the I Really Don’t Want This Book to Suck Syndrome. It’s both a blessing and a curse when people expect something from you—a blessing because they’ve probably read the first book and want another, a curse if you can’t give them what they want—when they want it. There’s no one who expects more from myself … than me, so I tend to overcompensate. In my head, I’m saying “You want A & B? Sure, I’ll give you A & B, but I’ll also give you C, and maybe for good measure, I’ll throw in D.”

See what I mean? ANAL.

In a recent conversation with a writer friend, I confessed I couldn’t grind out a book every six months. Though I have a self-imposed deadline in mind, life has a funny way of intervening. I re-shifted my priorities for a few things I thought were more important than getting my book out by spring. In doing so, serendipity stepped in. That’s when I decided to make some story changes. Changing anything in one’s writing takes longer than expected—at least it does for me.

Spring into Summer will come out this summer, and the stories represent the best I’ve written to date. In every area of my life, quality trumps quantity, and so it should for my writing as well. It might take me longer to create my “backlist,” but I hope you’ll agree it was worth it.

In the meantime, the book cover has been decided. As the companion piece to my first book, Fall into Winter, you’ll notice it has a similar look and feel.

I can say with almost 99% certainty the cover will not be changing. ;)

Hope you like it.

Update to Spring into Summer

During the time I was writing my first book, I was not connected to Twitter, did not have a blog, and was on Facebook only to play on-line Scrabble. Within ten months of quitting my job to write full-time, I had published Fall into Winter — my anthology of erotic novellas. That was February 2011.

The wheels have spun more slowly since then. My first post last November recounted the frustration of setting up my blog and was entitled “Patience is a Virtue.”  Patience is something I have little of. I’ve had my second anthology written for some time, but I’ve been editing it—slowly. I hate editing, and I revise numerous times prior to giving it to a professional. I’m like the homemaker who cleans my house before I hire a maid to really clean it. It’s a sickness — I know.

* * * *

I also know I did things slightly backwards with my first book. I built my author platform after my book got released. Knowing that meaningful relationships don’t spring up overnight, I’ve taken time to connect with people whom I consider allies. Bonding with them has helped me to become a better writer, to market myself strategically, and to develop close friendships that are more than just about the business of writing and selling books.

* * * *

It’s no coincidence I’ve chosen “patience” as my theme for this month. As much as I’d like to jump in and launch my second book by year-end—I’m not going to. It’s not the right time, and there’s no urgency except for my own impatience. My first book came out in time for Valentine’s Day which was wonderful—erotica in February made sense. Spring into Summer released at Christmas? Not so much, especially for a Canadian girl accustomed to snow, not sand in December.

* * * *

I’d like to share some final thoughts with those who’ve read Fall into Winter and told me they’re anxiously awaiting my next book. I cannot begin to tell you how encouraging your words are, and I firmly believe you can never say “thank you” often enough, so… thank you from the bottom of my  ♥  for your continued support. It makes my life as a writer truly worthwhile.

Book Trailer for Fall into Winter

I’d like to officially introduce my book trailer for Fall into Winter.  Yes, I do things a little backwards. My book launched in February, and it would’ve made sense to have one sooner, but I am SOOO happy I waited. Why? Because I connected with the über talented Rebecca Treadway.  She is an author of horror fiction, but she’s also an amazing artist, and she designed my trailer. I don’t want to tell you too much about her because she will be interviewed within the next few months on my INSIDE THE AUTHOR’S MIND series.

Until then, check out my video and Rebecca’s website, (www.atrtink.com).  She’s currently updating it and will have more content soon.

Hire this woman for your next book trailer or book cover! She’s professional, artistic, and has a keen eye for what works.

Enjoy,

eden
