Inside the Author’s Mind – Dani Amore

Dani Amore is a crime novelist living in Los Angeles, California. She’s also extremely sarcastic. You’ll learn that quickly from reading her answers to my questions. If you’re like me and love a woman with a quick wit and a sense of humor, then you’re in for a treat.

Please welcome Dani Amore and read some of the wonderful reviews for her books.

Dead Wood is a fast-paced, unpredictable mystery with an engaging narrator and a rich cast of original supporting characters.” –Thomas Perry, Edgar-winning author of The Butcher’s Boy.

“From its opening lines, Dani Amore and her private eye novel DEAD WOOD recall early James Ellroy: a fresh attitude and voice and the heady rush of boundless yearning and ambition. Amore delivers a vivid evocation of time and place in a way that few authors achieve, nailing the essence of her chosen corner of high-tone Michigan. She also deftly dodges the pitfalls that make so much contemporary private detective fiction a mixed bag and nostalgia-freighted misfire. Amores’ detective has family; he’s steady. He’s not another burned-out, booze-hound hanging on teeth and toenails to the world and smugly wallowing in his own ennui. This is the first new private eye novel in a long time that just swept me along for the ride. Amore is definitely one to watch.” — Edgar-nominated author Craig McDonald

“As gritty as the Detroit streets where it’s set, DEAD WOOD grabs you early on and doesn’t let go. As fine a a debut as you’ll come across this year, maybe any year.”  —Author Tom Schreck

Dani Amore’s writing reminds me of the great thriller writers — lean, mean, no nonsense prose that gets straight to the point and keeps you turning those pages.” —Author Robert Gregory Browne

Inside Dani Amore’s Mind

What is your idea of perfect happiness? A solid day of writing followed by a bucket of ice-cold beer, sitting on the porch of my lake cottage.

What turns you on creatively? Caffeine, and reading a book I wish I’d written.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse? ‘Just fucking Google it.’

What quality do you most admire in a man? The ability to be silent.

What quality do you most admire in a woman? An appreciation for vengeance.

What is your greatest regret? Losing my virginity to Ed Asner.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? My poor vertical leap.

What is your greatest fear? Prohibition.

Which living person do you most admire? The Guiness Book of World Records holder for man with the longest fingernails.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Gunfighter.

If you could choose what to come back as, what would it be? Bigfoot, just to know that I actually exist.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Avoiding incarceration.

What is the trait you most deplore in others? A flagrant rejection of common thong etiquette.

What is your greatest extravagance? I have Point Special Beer shipped directly to me.

What is one thing you want to do before you die? Get drunk with Keith Richards.

What is your present state of mind? Predatory.

What are some of your favorite curse words? It’s not a curse, but I’ve become quite fond of the word ‘trousers.’

What is your motto? ‘Just fucking Google it.’

  1. I adore those answers! Made me smile. I am grinning at the word ‘trousers’, as a Brit I am trying to get my head around them as a novelty word. 😀

  3. I had a question, but then I decided to ‘just fucking Google it.’

For the record, the question was, “If your father is doctor and your mother is a lawyer, how many pancakes does it take to cover the roof of the gymnasium?”

Let’s see what result I get from, ‘Just fucking Gogle,’ shall we?
